If you’ve already got a Solar system on your roof but your sick of increasing power outages or the feed in tariff’s receiving another cut then a great way to combat this is by adding batteries to your existing Solar system. We do this by using an off grid Multiplus II 5kVA inverter charger for maximum power and performance when the power goes out paired with the safest and best performing Pylontech lithium batteries. The difference between quality and cheap battery backup systems

When you’re adding batteries to your existing Solar system there are many ways to skin a cat, it is imperative to know the vast differences in types of lithium batteries and inverters that are available. It can look like you’re comparing apples with apples – as how hard can it be adding batteries to an existing Solar system. The reality is you can be comparing a Rolls Royce with a Great Wall and that will make a big difference to how your household reacts when the power goes out.

A true backup & energy storage system will have your house working exactly as it would when the power is off as what it would be when the power is on.

With a true ‘off grid inverter’ with the relevant grid approvals – that is how it works: in this case you have a fully off grid capable system that is normally connected to the grid. Using a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter charger, we transform our customer’s current Solar systems into fully independent off grid systems that are still connected to the grid, which can also still export power back into the grid for feed-in tariffs and use some grid power at times of low battery and sun.

With a ‘battery ready system’ most on offer include an inverter that can only give you half the available power of their usual capacity when the grid is down, and have no real surge capacity to start medium sized electric motors which means when the power goes out on a 45 degree day you can’t run your air conditioner or pump. The reason they have less power is because they don’t have an inbuilt transformer like an off grid Multiplus II inverter, this is where the real power comes from. If you just want to keep your fridge running and a few lights then it will be fine, if you want to be able to run your air conditioner, water pump or other power drawing items then an off grid capable system is the only way to achieve that.

There are two main distinctions amongst lithium batteries that you can use for your energy storage – grid-ready batteries and off grid batteries. Grid-ready lithium batteries such as LG, Samsung and Delta to name a couple have a different lithium battery chemistry. A less stable battery is far less safe when physically damaged or exposed to an electrical fault. On the other hand, lithium iron phosphate batteries are truly capable off grid batteries (such as BYD, Pylontech and Powerplus), have been extensively tested with physical damage and electrical fault exposure to prove their safety, and also have far superior longevity or cycle life.
